The U.S Constitution guarantees every criminal defendant the right to legal representation, even if they can’t afford it. Yet, more than 70 percent of public defender systems are operating over their maximum caseload limit. The people who face the consequences are those who can’t afford a lawyer and are pressured to take plea deals, even when they’re innocent. Wes Moore and Jelani Anglin want to change that with their respective organizations, The Robin Hood Foundation and the Good Call hotline.
