In 2020, a Minneapolis police officer killed George Floyd, sparking national outrage and a demand for change. Derek Chauvin was convicted of his murder, and three other former officers are also facing charges, but advocates say that’s not enough. On Tuesday, Minneapolis residents will vote on an amendment to the city’s charter. If it passes, that would limit the size and scope of the police department, and incorporate a public health approach.
