Congress has been out of Washington for the past two weeks for their scheduled recess, but not out of the hot seat. Constituents have been packing town halls and making their voices heard. Rep. Steve Womack, in his fourth term representing Arkansas’ third district, held four town halls in four days, occasionally facing disruptive citizens demanding answers on issues such as healthcare and the budget. He says listening to the criticism is all part of the job.
When lawmakers return to the Capitol, they face a budget deadline; the government could shut down if a budget deal is not resolved by Friday. Womack sits down with Soledad O’Brien to discuss Congress’ tendency to put off important legislation and the cost of the president’s frequent trips to his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago.
