As President Donald Trump finishes his first week, our relationship with American ally Mexico appears to be in jeopardy. After Trump signed two executive orders regarding immigration from the Southern border, Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto canceled his scheduled visit to the United States. The meeting was meant to discuss the U.S.-Mexico relationship within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Trump criticized NAFTA throughout his campaign as a disaster for American jobs, however supporters of the agreement argue it has added jobs and strengthened the US economy. Diana Negroponte, a trade attorney and scholar, worked on negotiations for NAFTA from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Mexico. She joins Soledad for discussion on how changes to NAFTA could affect U.S. business and consumers and how the 25-year-old agreement could be updated.
