After the 2016 election, many Americans criticized the electoral college which handed the vote to President Trump, despite Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote. It’s the not first time. Democrats have won the popular vote and lost the electoral college five times. Critics say that means a handful of swing states can determine the election while supporters say it keeps small states in the conversation.
