Award-winning hip hop artist Common admits social justice wasn’t a big motivator in the beginning of his career. But he became an activist after becoming more aware of his music’s impact. Common is using his platform to call out gun violence and mass incarceration. He says he’s proud of the Parkland mass shooting victims, but they are going to need to take that next step to affect change.
