The Education Department is severely scaling back its investigations team according to a New York Times report released this week. Originally, the team was tasked with investigating fraudulent claims by for-profit universities. Now, with the investigations team under the direction of a former dean of for-profit DeVry University, inquiries into three major for-profit colleges has ceased.
Students who have been victims of fraud by for-profit schools are often burdened. Currently, more than 44 million Americans hold $1.5 trillion in student loan debt, a financial obligation that can keep former students from investing in a house, a car or a family. Rep.
