High school graduation rates are at an all-time high at 82 percent, yet there are many stubborn problems to overcome, from the number of students living in poverty and those involved in gang activity. Elizabeth Dozier is the former principal of Christian Fenger Academy High School, one of the most underserved and violent schools in the country and a student body with nearly half its member classified as homeless. During her six years as principal, she brought the graduation rate from 40 percent to 80 percent with her hands-on, individually tailored student success plans.
Her latest venture is Chicago Beyond, a non-profit investment organization, supporting educators and programs to ensure student safety and push students toward academic success. Check out our interview for her take on matching education to every student’s needs.
