Cheating on school papers is hardly new, but it’s getting easier with artificial intelligence (AI). Launched in late 2022, ChatGPT scrapes the internet to write songs, poems and even your essays. Amid fears of how this evolving technology will impact ordinary lives, Princeton student Edward Tian developed GPTZero – a software program that promises to detect whether a string of sentences was written by ChatGPT or a human. Soledad O’Brien speaks with the college senior about the future of AI, the fears that teachers have shared with him and what safeguards – if any – should be put in place to combat plagiarism.
