Last summer, the national 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number was launched to replace the cumbersome ten digit number. Those working to end suicide hope the simplified number will encourage more people to reach out, but a recent study shows that fewer than half Americans know about it. Teresa Krug visited with advocates in Montana — part of the “Suicide Belt” — who are answering the calls and hoping greater awareness will lead to fewer deaths.
