Nearly 400,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since the 1999 mass shooting at Columbine, according to a Washington Post analysis. After 19 students and 2 teachers were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas in 2022, the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse External Advisory Board was established. The board’s purpose was to provide advice and recommendations on ways to enhance K-12 school safety to the Department of Homeland Security. But, when the Trump administration took office, the board was suspended. Soledad O’Brien speaks to the board’s chair, Ronn Nozoe, about the panel’s work and its uncertain future.
