It is estimated that over 64,000 people died last year due to fatal drug overdoses. Of those, the vast majority involved opioids, a continuing narrative in the opioid crisis across America. Dr. Rahul Gupta is the Public Health Commissioner for West Virginia, the state with the highest rate of opioid deaths in the nation. He has the challenging task of addressing the crisis while still appropriately treating those in chronic pain.
